If you love to cook, a career in culinary arts as a chef may be just the thing for you!

Wikipedia defines a Chef as:
A chef is a person who cooks professionally. In a professional kitchen setting, the term is used only for the one person in charge of everyone else in the kitchen — the "executive chef"

Becoming a top chef may take years of training and experience, but fret not, until you achive that Top Chef status you can still have a cooking career as defined by this list of Back of the House Terms

  • Fry Cook: This is a line cook in charge of anything that needs to be deep fried.
  • Grill Cook: This is a line cook in charge of the items on the char-grill or flattop grill, such as meats, chicken and fish.
  • Line Cook: The most common title in the kitchen is that of line cook. It refers to any cook working a particular station along the kitchen line.
  • Sauté Chef: This is a line cook in charge of anything cooked in a sauté pan.
  • Dessert Chef: The person who is charge of desserts.
  • or a Sous Chef: The executive chefs assistant, and next in charge.
The Sous (pronounced soo) Chef is the assistant to the Head Chef, the second in command. When the main Chef is away, the Sous Chef usually takes charge. Sous is a French word meaning "under", but the term does not imply underling, rather, under-Head-Chef in this context.
